Like dry and brittle? Like you will have to trim 10 inches off just to have it feel healthy again?
You my friends have not been introduced to ammonia free hair color.
Now a days everyone is into the "healthier the better" most hair lines are developing ammonia free hair color.
Now lets break this down for you...
HOW DOES IT WORK? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MY HAIR?
Normally ammonia is used in permanent hair colors to produce better and stronger and longer lasting color. Which also means more significant color changes..but how does this produce such color changes? Ammonia partially removes the natural color from the hair shaft, it opens up the surface of the hair strand so that the hair color can get through and effectively lift your hair to the desired pigment so that the color molecules can properly penetrate and deposit.
Ammonia has been one of the main factors responsible for the hair color to be altered with out rinsing out after a few washes. Ammonia color has some lovely factors that make it stand out...such as stinging the eyes and scalp, and the lovely smell!!
Now with the concerns of harsh chemicals and everyone wanting to go "green" it has caused this industry of hair to change!
You may ask, but how does ammonia free give me the results I am looking for?
Ammonia-free color work by an ammonia alternative called an MEA aka monoethanolamine (a big word for an oil based delivery system) an MEA gently opens and penetrates the hair shaft.
I personally like Goldwell's color line. Goldwell recently launched Nectya which is a form of ammonia free intra-lipid hair color. This line from Goldwell is an oil based color that doesn't add weight to the hair with oils and leaves the hair feeling smooth and healthy and sometimes softer than before!
Before ammonia free colors were not able to achieve the same results, now however we are able to achieve the same lasting results as ammonia permanent hair color, with lasting grey coverage! By using an ammonia-free color you can prevent that dry unmanageable, over processed hair. They are gentler on the hair, with an odor you can manage and little to no irritation.
But don't get me wrong anything you put on your hair if not used properly can cause damage! So make sure you trust a professional before experimenting!!
Next time you see your stylist, weather its ME or someone else ask them about going ammonia free!
